Role of the volunteer
Reconnexion volunteers answer all phone calls coming into the organisation. Many calls are requests for information about tranquillisers, analgesics or anxiety disorders. Other calls are from people requiring support during their tranquilliser withdrawal, and others from people in crisis asking for assistance. Calls include requests from health professionals for information, resources or secondary consultations.
Volunteers assist the administration coordinator with administrative tasks, such as client appointments, mail outs and photocopying
Commitment Required
Volunteers are asked to commit to a full day per week for at least one year after completing training.

Who can become a volunteer
Reconnexion volunteers come from diverse backgrounds. For example they may have been dependent on benzodiazepines themselves, recovered from an anxiety disorder or depression, have a family member with an anxiety disorder, be a health practitioner or a student with an interest in benzodiazepines, anxiety disorders or depression.
Reconnexion volunteers are men and women ranging in age from 21 years to 80 years. They have a breadth of personal experience, are empathetic, non-judgemental and good listeners. They also believe in the prospects of rehabilitation and recovery.
Reconnexion volunteers need to be able to commit to a full day per week for at least one year after completion of their training
